Today is amazing. I linked up with the Australians. They rented a car and are letting me travel with them. We are driving down to the small town I was going to go to anyways. The drive is amazing!
We then got to Glendalough. We did a 5 mile hike through the forest and by some lakes. The first half of the hike was pretty lame then all of a sudden we turned a corner and WOW!
What a wonderful small town. Weather again was perfect. We are now headed to a small port town to get some rest and get up early for the drive to Kerry. While driving, the best Irish song came on and the scenery was amazing.
I went back to Howth today and did the walking path. I traveled with three australians and a New zealander. I would guess we walked about 7 miles today. It was breathtaking. The views were vast and green!
Here is a fun time-lapse video I shot of the train ride and the walk to the pier.
After Howth we rented bikes and road to a park where they are having a huge festival. We got a motorcycle made out of balloons.
Then I ate my first meat pie..... So delicious! I wish we had them in the states!
We also got our caricature done as well. I look so funny!
Tomorrow I head to my next town with a population of 280! So excited. Today was a great day. This is why I am here.
Last night a group of 5 of us went to dinner together. I had some of the beat soup I have ever had. It was traditionaln ann stew! It was amazing!
After that a group of 18 of us from the hostel went out to the pubs together. We had a blast. We went to the bar that was in the movie P.S. I love you. There was a man in the bar that had been playing the guitar for 104 hrs! He was breaking the Guinness world record. Needless to say it was a very long night. I am using today to rest and recuperate. We went to a park to watch some street performers and I am doing laundry. One more full day in Dublin then off to my next city.
Tonight I am hanging out with a bunch of people I went out with last night. I booked my hostel for Sunday night in Glendalough, population 280! Looks amazing. Tomorrow I am going back to Howth to see the rest of the countryside. The guys from Australia might go with me if they and roll out of bed in time.
Today a group of five of us(2 Americans, 1 Australian, 1 Canadian and I" took the train up north to Malahide and Howth.
The first stop was Malahide. Very beautiful. Saw a Castle, church and beach.
Weather today is getting colder and off and on rain. It is really nice to be traveling with a group of people. They are really nice and easy going. The next stop was Howth. All I can say is WOW! What a beautiful place.
We were going to stay longer but it got really cold and started to pour rain, so we ended up coming home instead for a rest. I think we are now going to meet up with a few more people and go on a pub crawl!
This is me this morning after the person that in the bunk above me snored ALL night!
I ended up having to sleep with my earphones in. Next stop is the store to buy earplugs! My calves are so sore today. My body is not used to walking so much. I am hopping that I come back in great shape!
Guinness brewhouse was really interesting. It is not where they brew. It is set up as a museum now. After the tour I went up to the gravity bar and had a pint while enjoying a panoramic view of Dublin. While having a pint a family from brazil sat next to me and gave me an extra pint! The daughter lives here in Dublin and gave me some good places to see. Next stop is Jameson's distillery. While walking away from the brewery I can smell the familiar smell of malted barley!
The distillery was very touristy but I got to be on the tasting panel to compare different whiskeys. After that I came back to my hostel I met up with a German guy and we went to a pub that makes it's own beer. It was really good! Had a stout and IPA (Irish pale ale)
When I came back I took a nap that was supposed to be 30min and turned into 2hrs! My hostel had a cook out tonight so we cooked out and had beer and burgers. Ended up at a table with 3 people from Finland and one girl from canada and two girls from California. A few of us are going to travel together to the coast tomorrow!
Got to my hostel with no problem at all. Could not check in till 2pm so I put all my stuff in a locker and headed off on foot. I walked over to trinity college to see the book of Kells. Absolutely beautiful. The library there is amazing.
Next Stop was of course to get a Guinness at the international. Yummy! Nice conversation with the bartender and a few pints. Spilled a little :(
After the three pints (a local Irish man bought me the third) I walked aimlessly around the town and got way lost. Probably walked about 10-15 miles today. My calves are killing me right now. I saw lots of street performers today and even got pulled into one where the guy was juggling fire and knives.
